In amazement, I can remember spending countless hours watching my Grandfather, a self taught artist, create images with such passion and great focus to detail. This inspired me to create from an early age.

I primarily work in color pencil and mixed medium. The technique I use for “mixed medium” consists of a base of designer pens, than layer upon layer of color pencil. As I layer the color pencil, I am blending colors and burnishing the surface with the pressure of the pencil giving it an even and smooth appearance, causing the surface to become opaque.

My images primarily depict western life and equines from a unique point of view. Owning horses of my own has intrigued me to capture their strength and beauty.

The harmonious shades of blue in a pair of worn blue jeans, the folds of an old cotton shirt and how light plays upon them,  these commonplace textures tickle my artistic being.  

Color, light and the use of negative space are key in my images. You may have noticed that the majority of my color pencil images have no back ground, this is to eliminate any distractions and bring an intimacy of the subject to the viewer.

My artistic purpose was best described by an inspiring artist as follows, “Your work shows an image that strikes people in their own hearts and they fill in the background mentally (and emotionally) with their own life experiences and memories. As an artist you do not need to provide everything for the viewer, just enough to engage them in some way”.
